Mahjong solitaire is a classic solitaire matching game that offers a refreshing twist by using a set of Mahjong tiles instead of traditional cards. Originally created by Brodie Lockard in 1981 and named Mah-Jongg after the traditional tile game it was based on, it gained popularity when Activision released Shanghai in 1986 for Macintosh and Apple IIgs.

Included in the Microsoft Entertainment Pack for Windows 3.x in 1990 under the name Taipei, this addictive game has stood the test of time. It was even featured in the Best of Windows Entertainment Pack and can now be found in premium editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 as Mahjong Titans.
